Rathfriland town itself has a lot of potential with its market square and many properties closed up, but a central piazza style food court with outdoor dining would work well here as the square is large enough to catch the sun at different times. A museum would also add to the town. There is a modest 'market' of a few stalls on a Wednesday. It is an ideal base to explore the local countryside just as it is a focus for the local agricultural community. The house is a Victorian merchant's family home with all the original features plus 21st-century upgrades making for a vintage atmosphere which was curated expertly with a mix of family heirlooms and contemporary furniture and fixings. The decor was tastefully assembled so that the result was a cosy house full of interest. The breakfast was fresh fruit and cereal followed by cooked breakfast as directed by Katherine. She cooked the breakfast with very tasty local produce, all served on vintage crockery and cutlery. Katherine is the perfect hostess ensuring our needs were met, she even organised a booking at the local (and only) restaurant which turned out to be very nice. The house is a perfect base for tours of the Mourne Country but take your boots off before entering!

Beautiful old English/Irish style house. One of the best B&Bs we have had so far. Catherine was a wonderful hostess. Thanks very much! Our room was sparkling clean and very large. The bathroom was very modern and had a great shower. Great WiFi. Breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared. Thank you for getting up early :). Perfectly situated to explore the Mourne Mountains. Belfast and Dublin are also easy to reach for a day trip. Susann & Robert

Location was wonderful, quiet countryside location in beautiful grounds. The owner was incredibly friendly & helpful, from arrival and a delightful afternoon tea in the lounge, to the wonderful breakfast the following morning. The room was delightful, full of character and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, with a lovely choice of fresh fruit and granolas, through to a gorgeous, freshly cooked breakfast.

Beautiful house with lots of character. Lovely spacious bedroom and comfortable lounge. Great breakfast with fresh local ingredients. We had a lovely, warm welcome form Catherine and she was happy to talk with us about the history of the local area and to recommend local excursions - as well as to assist with trying to research my family tree!

This beautiful old estate was a jewel and I’m grateful Kathryn shares it. She is such a gracious host! I’m not usually a fan of B and B’s because they are filled with dainty antiques and this house blends livability with the past quite nicely. Breakfast was awesome! Barney was sweet! I’d stay there again in a minute!
